Chemist’s shop burgled

Clyde Browne’s Pharmacy, in Linwood, was the latest target in a series of recent raids on chemists’ shops in Christchurch. Burglars broke a hole in the front door on Friday night and took about $lOO in drugs from the shop’s safe. The burglars also ripped out alarms and caused other damage estimated at thousands of dollars.

Inquiries are continuing into the bashing of a supermarket manager in Ferry Road on Friday evening. Two masked men wielding batons hit Mr Ken Lidding-

ton over the head and escaped with about $4OO from the Keystore. Mr Liddington attempted to resist but was hit on the side of the head by one of the intruders. He suffered a cut to the face and a bruised eye. He was treated at Christchurch Hospital and discharged. One attacker was described as being about 1.73 m tall, of solid build and wearing a two-tone blue tracksuit. The other was about 180 cm tall and wearing what was believed to be a green tracksuit.
