McMaster on left wing

The University A fullback, Andrew McMaster, has been drafted to the left wing for Canterbury’s first national championship rugby match of the season against Wairarapa-Bush at Masterton tomorrow. McMaster takes over from Craig Green, who returns to his more customary position ’ at second fiveeighths. The selector, Alex Wyllie, has given the usual second five-eighths, Warwick Taylor, a deserved rest

and, in the meantime, he has also bracketed two other All Blacks from Saturday’s test, Jock Hobbs and John Ashworth. Wayne Smith, Tony Thorpe and Allan Lindsay were not considered because of injuries and neither was Albert Anderson because of influenza. To fill the gaps, Anthony Dalzell has been restored to the squad and two newcomers, Steve Baker and Wayne Burleigh, have been

added to the travelling party. The team is:— Robbie Deans; McMaster, Victor Simpson, Garry Hooper; Green, Keiran Keane; Bruce Deans; Dale Atkins; Don Hayes (captain), Kerry Mitchell, Andy Earl, Hobbs or Dalzell; Murray Davie, Gwyn Williams, Ashworth or Phil Robson.

Reserves. — Backs: Taylor, Baker, Burleigh. Forwards: John Mills, and the two to be admitted.
