SECRETARY UNIVERSITY OF PAPUA NEW GUINEA UNIVERSITY OF PAPUA NEW GUINEA DEPARTMENT OF EXTENSION STUDIES APPLICATIONS are Invited from suitably qualified persons for the following position: SENIOR LECTURER/ LECTURER (Humanlties/Soclal Sciences) Applicants should have appropriate post-graduate qualifications or their equivalent. The appointee should have editorial skills and a capacity to co-ordinate, teach and write courses at First Year level in some areas of Humanlties/Soclal Sciences (e.g. English, Linguistics, Literature, History, Politics, Economics). Applications close, July 31, 1983 and the position will be filled as soon as possible thereafter. The Department of Extension Studies has four major functions. First, the supervision and administration of external studies programmes at the university, which currently entail Arts First Year, Diploma of Industrial Relations and Matriculation Studies. Second, the development of further programmes. Third, the organisation of extra-mural lectures, workshops and seminars, which contribute to the non-formal education of the Port Moresby community. Fourth, the department Is developing provincial university centres, the first of which began In late 1982. The staff of Extension Studies consists of the director, who Is the academic and administrative head, four academic co-ordinators and five administrative staff, all located In Port Moresby, plus mainly part-time staff In the provincial centres. The position will be for three years and may be renewed. Experience In a Third World country, particularly Papua New Guinea, or with people using English as a second language will be an advantage.
