University Vacancies THE UNIVERSITY OF PAPUA NEW GUINEA VACANCIES GOROKA TEACHERS’ COLLEGE APPLICATIONS are Invited from suitably qualified persons for the following positions. DEPARTMENT OF POST VOCATIONAL AND COMMERCIAL TRAINING Lecturer/Senlor Lecturer (Agrlculture/Commerce) The successful applicant will be primarily Involved In the training of Agriculture and Commerce Teachers for the Provincial High Schools. Vocational Centres and Agriculture Colleges. Although they may be required to assist tn the teaching of other subjects. Applicants should possess: (1) Degree in Agriculture (2) Teaching Qualification (3) Experience in teaching Agriculture in the tropics. Applicants should have had experience In research or curriculum development and successful teaching experience. To be appointed to a lecturing post applicants must hold a Masters Degree, however, other suitable applicants without a Masters Degree will be considered for Tutorial post. DEPARTMENT OF LANGUAGE STUDIES Tutor/Senior Tutor/Lecturer Applicants should possess qualifications in English In the teaching of English as a Second Language. Experience In teaching English at Secondary or Tertiary level in Papua New Guinea or In other Developing Countries Is highly desirable. The successful applicant will be expected to take up duties at the beginning of 1984. SALARY: Tutor — K 13.700 per annum plus gratuity Senior Tutor — K 16.020 per annum plus gratuity Lecturer — K 16.020 per annum plus gratuity Senior Lecturer — K 19.720 per annum plus gratuity Applications will be treated as strictly confidential and should include a full curriculum vitae, a recent small photograph and the names and addresses of three referees. The successful applicant will be offered a contract for a three-year appointment. The gratuity entitlement Is based on 24 p.c. of salary earned and is payable In Instalments or lump sum and Is taxed at a flat rate of 2 p.c. In addition to the salaries quoted above, the main benefits Include: support for approved research; rent-free accommodation; appointment and repatriation airfares for appointee and dependants; financial assistance towards the cost of transporting personal effects to and from PNG; 6 weeks annual recreation leave with home airfares available after each 18 months of continuous service; generous education subsidies for children attending schools In PNG or overseas; a salary continuation scheme to cover extended Illness or disability. A sound background In protein chemistry and biochemistry would be advantageous. SPANISH - LECTURESHIP CLOSING DATE: AUGUST 31, 1983 Applicants must hold an honours degree In Spanish. Preference Is likely to be given to a candidate with special Interests In modern Spanish literature. Commencing salaries will be established within the appropriate scale — Professors $NZ41,397 - $52,482 per annum; Lecturers $NZ21,660 - $25,684 per annum.
