Bird hazard
Sir, — Do we have to wait untie there is a serious air accident with possible loss of life, before the waimairi Council rubbish tip near Christchurch Airport is closed? Is it not sufficient that pilots have reported "numerous” bird strikes recently at the north end of the north—south runway? Is it any wonder that pilots threaten to boycott this airport if something is not done abouth this danger immediately? The extensions to the runway are of great importance to Christchurch Airport, but the lives of hundreds of passengers are of far greater importance than any rubbish dump. — Yours, etc., M. E. HOUSTON. June 29, 1983.
