Rare lobster find

Wellington reporter The first confirmed capture of a packhorse rock lobster off the Chatham Islands has been notified to

the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries. Packhorses are known to breed only in a limited area of the North Island, mainly near Cape Reinga, but also along the east coast as far south as Coromandel. As packhorse lobsters migrate north to breed, the Ministry believes that the one caught recently arrived at the Chathams as larva. The Ministry said that if one could reach the Chathams, there were probably others.
