Club refused extension

An application by the New Brighton Rugby Club to have its drinking hours extended over the summer to cater for a newly formed cricket team has been declined by the Licensing Control Commission. In a hearing before the commission in March, the club submitted that the introduction of cricket as one of its activities warranted an extension of the licence.

However, the commission felt that with only 20 of the club’s 900 involved with cricket, the activity was not sufficiently established to warrant a licence covering summer months. The commission said it would be prepared to consider the matter again after a further cricket season if it was shown that the club’s cricket was a better established activity involving more members.
