TV serial on Erebus disaster
NZPA staff correspondent Sydney The Mount Erebus aircrash disaster will be recreated for a $3 million television serial. The November, 1979, crash of an Air New Zealand DCIO which ploughed into the slopes of Mount Erebus while on a scenic flight from Auckland killed 237 passengers and 20 crew. Crawford Productions, the maker of the Australian television programmes, “Cop Shop” and “The Sullivans,” plans to dramatise the personal and legal conflicts resulting from the tragedy. A scriptwriter, Eferert de Roche, and a researcher are already at work on the programme, which could be televised as a mini-series. Crawford’s marketing director, Mr Nick McMahon, hopes to start filming next year.
