After second title
Maurice Burrowes won his only South Island table tennis singles title 10 years ago, but tomorrow evening, at the provincial association rooms in Selwyn Street, he will have a grand opportunity to double that tally.
As a 17-year-old, Burrowes beat Wayne Adamson in the 1973 final, but since then he has been unable to repeat that win. Burrowes is in good form,
and with the country’s top players staying away this year, the title is well within his grasp.
He won the Canterbury title, for the first time, last month, beating Hamel in the final. This time, he is seeded to meet Simeon Cairns, the Otago studert, in the * final. Burrowes beat Cairns in his Canterbury semi-final.
