Ebbett continues to firm

Although rises outnumbered falls two to one, share prices were mixed on New Zealand stock exchanges yesterday. The N.Z.U.C. industrial index eased 1.21 points and trading was moderately active. East Coast Gas, the newly-listed Hawke’s Bay natural gas supplier, was again widely traded for a gain of 5c to 80c, and Ebbett Waikato rose a further 5c to 260 c, putting it 20c above the cash take-over offer. Rights trading has begun for three leading companies—New Zealand South British, New Zealand Steel, and Winstone. The Steel rights fell a sharp 7c to 31c, but Winstone’s firmed 2c to 22c. The mining and oil sector, which accounted for about a third of the total market turnover, was mixed.
