Conservationists
Sir, — Recently the Minister of Forests, Mr Elworthy, made some comments about conservationists. His comments are correct About three years ago a Mr Eric Bennett, a strong-minded conservationists, wrote in letters to the editor about when the last mature podocarps have been felled and when the indigenous forests have gone. This was a ridiculous statement to make for it will never happen and it was a statement that was tmng to brainwash the public. P. J. Dixon (June 22, 1983), complains of Federated Futures. Has that person taken time to find out everything about Federated Futures? I live and work in native forests and I am not complaining about what is happening to them. Also, when it comes to thoughts about native forests have strong-minded conservationists not heard of the silent majority who agree with present forestry proposals — Yours, etc., A. K. HEPBURN. A Reef ton, June 23, 1983.
