Socred support growing
PA Dunedin Social Credit would benefit from growing disillusionment with Labour and its new leader, said the Social Credit member of Parliament for East Coast Bays, Mr G. T. Knapp, yesterday
in Dunedin. Divisions in Labour were still apparent, in spite of the election of the new leader, Mr Lange, Mr Knapp said. He said that Mr Lange had made a number of critically bad leadership decisions and the public was “turning off” the party quickly. Social Credit was benefiting markedly from Labour’s declining support, said Mr Knapp. People were switching to Social Credit from Labour at a two to one ratio. “There will be a swing to Social Credit at the next General Election,” Mr Knapp said. “Candidates are being selected and will give the party a much higher profile.” The party had its support concentrated in the north of the North Island, he said, where in several seats it was the “official opposition,” with Labour a poor third.
