New Auditor-General

PA Wellington Mr B. H. C. Tyler has been appointed Controller and Auditor-General, succeeding Mr A. C. Shailes, who is retiring, the Minister of Finance, Mr Muldoon, announced yesterday. Mr Tyler, aged 51, is the assistant director-general (benefits and pensions) of the Social Welfare Department and will take up his new post on August 1.

Mr Muldoon said Mr Tyler had a wide experience in a number of Government departments, including the Inland Revenue Department and the Treasury, where he was an assistant secretary. He had been a special adviser to the Commonwealth Secretariat and was also a member and director of the secretariat of the McCaw Committee on tax reform in 1981-82.
