Industrial problems
Sir,—lt is interesting to note that the City Council labourers can afford to forfeit a day’s pay (at 55.03 an hour equals $40.24 gross) in these times of economic hardship. It seems even more ridiculous to think that they have to work twice as hard the next day to clear the backlog of rubbish, and therefore have achieved nothing. If they feel they are being over paid, why not have them give X amount of dollars each week to the under-privileged of our city and send a petition to the Government. They would then not be disrupting their fellow citizens, would be achieving the same end and doing some good with the money they find they have plenty of.—Yours, etc., STEPHEN R. RICHENS.
