Rakaia irrigation
Sir,—l heartily agree with W. G. Logan (June 24). His proposal for ponding water in times of flood for irrigation purposes is an excellent one. The water would carry large amounts of river silt which could eventually be used to cover some of the shallow soils in the surrounding areas. The water would be warm in nature, making it very suitable for irrigation. Altogether a very sensible idea. Let us work with mother nature for once.—Yours, etc., PETER STAFFORD. June 24, 1983.
