HART to spotlight visit
PA Wellington The proposed visit to South Africa by seven All Blacks would come under the spotlight at an international conference in London next week, HART, the anti-apartheid movement, has said. The organisation’s chairman, Mr John Minto, said he would report on the visit to the conference, which has been organised by the United Nations and the South African Non-Racial Olympic Committee. “The response of our Government and Olympic and Commonwealth Games
Association to this tour will naturally come into focus at the conference,” Mr Minto said. He said the meeting, which will run from June 27 to June 29, would review the international campaign to isolate South African sport and examine weak areas in the campaign, “such as rugby and New Zealand.” Representatives of the United Nations’ Special Committee Against Apartheid, the Organisation of African Unity, the Supreme Council for Sport in Africa, the Commonwealth Secre-
tariat, and African and Commonwealth governments as well as anti-apart-heid movements will be at the conference. Mr Minto said HART wanted to discuss the tour with the New Zealand Rugby Union and also wanted the Government to make a “clear, unambiguous Sst” to the union to old the invitations to the seven players. The response of the Government and the Rugby Union would have an important effect on the views HART presented to the conference, Mr Minto said.
