Suggestions for museum funding
The Canterbury Museum Trust Board will not impose an admission charge for visitors to the museum but other ways of raising money may be implemented soon. At its meeting this month the board considered a report from the museum director, Mr M. M. Trotter, on the feasibility of imposing an admission charge and agreed with him that the
disadvantages would outweigh any advantages. Instead the museum may increase the rent on the cafeteria; provide a large notice board suggesting donations for specific projects; provide guides for tour parties and charge for the use of the guides; and charge an entry fee for any gallery containing a special or temporary display.
