Akaroa asked to conserve water
Akaroa residents have been asked to conserve water because of a breakdown in the supply to the town’s main reservoir. Three breaks in the supply pipe to the L’Aube Hill reservoir have meant that the level has dropped more than a metre in the last few days. The Akaroa County Council engineer, Mr K. A. Paulin, said that the supply would be affected until after the week-end. To overcome the shortfall, water is being taken from a secondary reservoir
in Aylmers Valley. “Water from this reservoir has been treated but not filtered so it may be discoloured. It has been chlorinated so it is perfectly safe,” said Mr Paulin. Mr Paulin said that because the Aylmers Valley reservoir was lower than L’Aube, water pressure in Akaroa would be reduced. “If the people in the lower levels of the township take too much water, those higher up might not get any. Everyone should try and conserve water whenever possible,” he said.
