Refer cleared by F.I.F.A.

PA Auckland F.1.F.A., soccer’s governing body, yesterday cleared the Wellington striker, Wynton Rufer, to play for New Zealand in the forthcoming Olympic qualifying matches. The New Zealand Football Association chairman, Mr Charlie Dempsey, said last evening that he was

seeking to gain approval from Rufer’s club FC Zurich, for the matches later this year. The New Zealand coach, Mr Allan Jones, welcomed F.I.F.A.’s decision. He said that he hoped it would open the door for Rufer to play in the games both in New Zealand and in Asia.
