Strong demand for red deer
PA Invercargill The fourth annual sale of selected farmed red deer at the Southland Farmers’ Cooperative Association’s Rosedale deer saleyard at Tussock Creek had a crowd of more than 500 whose bidding was lively for 250 deer. Several lots were sold to interests at Taihape, Hawke’s Bay, and Canterbury. Values for weaner hinds were fully firm on the Criffel Game Park sale at Wanaka earlier in the week. Weaner hinds sold from $ll5O to $1750, the top vendor being D. Marshall. of Otautau, who sold five
at $1750 and five at $l7OO to Para Deer Farms, at Taihape. The Dunrobin Stag Range, B. Pinney, of Mossburn, sold five at $l7OO, and the Papamoa Deer Farm, of Glenavy, five at $l7OO and five at $1675. These sales were also to Para Deer Farms. Top price in the offering of 18-month-old hinds went to Southland Farm Produce, of Branxholme, with five at $2850. Southland Farm Produce sold five 18-month-old hinds at $2450 and 10 at $2400. An offering for R. N. Jennings, of Awarua, brought an average of $2OBO, the top being $2450.
