Booklet on schizophrenia
A New Zealand booklet about schizophrenia has won overseas acceptance. The Christchurch-based Schizophrenia Fellowship has sent about 300 copies overseas to meet demand from individuals and supE)rt groups in Canada, ritain, Australia, and South
Africa TheTb’ational co-ordinator
of the fellowship, Mrs Anne Noonan, said there was an urgent need for information about the illness and its treatment for sufferers and their families., Many misconceptions existed about schizophrenia. “We did not have any idea it would be so popular, although we knew people were desperate,” she gaid.
“We just did not realise how desperate.” Information in the booklet came from the fellowship’s medical advisers and a clinical psychologist. Several thousand copies have been distributed throughout New Zealand and the Health Department recently undertook a third printing of booklets for its own use.
