Judgment reserved on damages
PA Wellington Mr Justice Ongley reserved judgment in an action for damages taken by a British television producer, Hughie Green, against the New Zealand Broadcasting Corporation. The case, which was heard in the High Court at Wellington, began on May 23 and was later adjourned until Wednesday, when final submissions were made. Mr Green, of London, alleges that Television New Zealand breached copyright by transmitting a talent quest programme called “Opportunity Knocks,” with a format similar to his programme. Mr Green claims $5OOO general damages against the Broadcasting Corporation and $50,000 exemplary damages.
