Second-grade cricket
In spite of an unbeaten century by Greg Hills, Marist succumbed to St Albans in the Canterbury Cricket Association's second-grade competition at the week-end; t The grade leader, Sydenham A. lost to Riccarton. and the bottom-placed East-Shirley improved its position by defeating Sydenham B. ' The matches, played on Saturday and Sunday, resulted:— Second grade Sydenham B 123 (G. L. Magon 6/33) and 231/9 dec. (B. Ayson 51; K. Hartshorne 5/61) lost to EastShirley 158/9 dec. and 201/4 (S. Haworth 69). Sydenham A 115 (K. Scott 5/38) and 193 (W. E. Scott 5/38) lost to Riccarton 181 and 129/5 (J. F. Airey 56). High School Old Boys 256/6 (B. G. Hadlee 53, R. Bayliss 81 n.o) beat Old Collegians 101 (Davoren 5/19) and 125 (Bayliss 5/16). Burnside-West University 127 and 246 (A. Hintz 60; A. Kench 5/6) lost to Lancaster Park 142/5 dec. and 202/9 on the first innings. ''
Marist 242 (G. Hills 109 n. 0.) and 105 (J. Durning 5/28) lost to St Albans 293 (B. Davidson 64) and 56/2. Third grade Burnside-West University 168/ 7 (A. Stewart 63) and 175/6 dec. lost to High School Old Boys 170/ 6 dec. (M. J. Mowat 76) and 159/8 on the first innings. Linwood High School 271/6 and 101/9 beat St Andrew’s 190 (Boyle 5/46. Williamson 5/70) on the first innings. Shirley Boys’ High School 73 (R. W. Haglund 5/11) and 110 lost to Burnside High School 143/9 dec. (Haglund 62) and 41/3. St Bede's 174 and 93/3 lost to Christchurch Boys’ High School 290/7 dec. (D. Bond 60,. B. Hartland 55). East-Shirley 171 (D. Reward 6/ 68) and 157 (C. Gibb 64) lost to Lancaster Park 134 (S. Daly 5/33) and 196/2 (A. Lindsay 90 n. 0., S. Mitchell 74 n. 0.). St Albans 215 (C. Yule 59) and 149 (S. Wilson 6/55) beat Christ's College 210 (A. Vincent 79) and 50/4.
