Travellers keep up with inflation
“Imagine yourself floating gently over the countryside in the old-fashioned wicker gondola of a giant seven-storeys-high hot-air balloon. No feeling of movement or height; just a wonderful sense of calm and a perfect allround view." That is how Balloon Adventures of North Adelaide describe a new week-end adventure in South Australia.
For your week-end's ballooning, you drive north from Adelaide to the Clare Valley — a scenic run of about two hours. One of South Australia’s major wine districts, the Clare Valley, has been chosen for ballooning because of its ideal terrain. The adventure is offered as a three day week-end, beginning Fridays, with accommodation in cabins outside Clare.
Balloon parties take turns to fly. chasing the wicker gondola by road for a change of passengers every 20 minutes or so. The pilot, Simon Fisher, makes the point that his craft follows the wind, not a schedule, and that ballooning is subject to suitable weather.
Passengers waiting their turn are entertained with slides and practical briefings, while every landing becomes a ceremonial occasion with champagne all round. Everyone helps with inflation and maintenance of the balloon. The cost is sAust22o per, person, which includes most meals.
