Public hall unisex toilets
Parliamentary reporter Associations representing local authorities want new provisions relating to unisex toilets extended to public halls. The Health Amendement Bill now before a select committee, provides that commercial premises no longer need have separate toilets for men and women where no more than 10 persons are employed. The Counties Association and the Municipal Association asked in a submission that public halls used only intermittently and having a ■ maximum capacity for 50 ; persons, need have only one , toilet, for use by both sexes. j At present halls accommo- ■ dating up to 50 persons must : provide a toilet for each sex, • each to be built to a stand- ; ard suitable for the disabled. The associations welcomed ' unisex toilets on commercial premises. ; “It relieves employers of a i costly obligation without \ threatening public health or ■ risking personal embarrass- ; ment to the individual,” they ' said.
