Sydney beckons
Special correspondent Dunedin A Sydney Cup start came closer to reality for Joyarty after her stunning win in the D.B. Galaxy Stakes at the Otago Rating Club’s meeting on Saturday. “I would be looking hard at Sydney now,” Brian Anderton, the trainer of Joyarty and Auditory, runner-up in the Galaxy, said after the race.
Joyarty settled sixth on the outside in the sevenhorse field, and improved three wide at the 700 m. She was in front near the 200 m and won comfortably by two lengths. “She was always going well. I thought I might have gone too soon, but Albatross was stopping in front of me,” said Jim Pankhurst, the rider of Joyarty. Auditory did well for a horse of her class to finish second.
