NZPA Sydney The New South Wales Government continues to reap the financial benefit of the popular Lotto game. In the 1980-81 financial year it received almost $53 million as its share of turnover. Ltd, and Mr Robert Sangster’s Vernons Organisation, Ltd,, based in England. The New South Wales Government receives 33 per cent

of the first $lOO million turnover, 34 per cent of the second $lOO million, and 35 per cent from the third $lOO million. The game began in the state in November, 1979, and has turned over $360 million, of which the state has gained $ll9 million. Two years ago the National Party’s caucus rejected Lotto’s introduction because it said that there were already sufficient gambling outlets for New Zealanders, and that the game would be against the interests of racing and trotting clubs.-
