Mr Havilah Down, left, is presented with the Internationa! Hockey Federation's Award of Merit and a federation tie by the president of the New Zealand Hockey Association and a member of the F.I.H. council, Mr B. Bremner. Mr Down is only the second New Zealander to receive the federation’s top award. The other was made, posthumously to Mr L. Howard Norton in 1974. Mr Down was secretary of the New Zealand association for 35 years and is a life member. He is still a keen follower of the sport, being a regular attender at club and provincial matches, and national tournaments.
