Interest in walk

Sir, — In reply to W. Margaret Dennis (April 23), the Walk for Life team are not concerned or disappointed about apathy or lack of support from the New Zealand people. The public have responded positively, participated in walks, fitness clinics and talks, and shown tremendous hospitality and generosity. Children’s involvement has been particularly rewarding. John (Dunlop) “the walker” and the team are disappointed over the failure of the Cancer Society of NewZealand (Inc.) to take full advantage of the walk to raise funds for Cancer Research. The Walk for Life project has tremendous fund-raising potential which unfortunately has been wasted. Early detection of cancer relies greatly on the use of advanced and expensive equipment being made available to doctors and on public education. All these require money and fund-raising is necessary. — Yours, etc., TERESA THOMPSON, Walk for Life P.R.O. April 23, 1979.
