Grab falls on woman
A woman is seriously ill in the Christchurch Hospital after a two-tonne dredge grab fell off a truck and struck her in Opawa Road on Tuesday afternoon.. She is Pauline Pearce, aged 37, of 43 Doncaster Street, Upper Riccarton, who was getting out of her car at the Opawa shopping centre when the accident occurred, about 4.10 p.m. She was admitted to the
hospital’s intensive-care unit with severe leg and internal injuries. Her condition late last evening was described as serious but improving. The dredge grab was being taken from Lyttelton to Christchurch by truck. Further inquries were being made into the accident, a Ministry of Transport spokesman said. “It seems lucky that noone else was injured,” the spokesman said.
