Holmdale to unload
. Watersiders will today ■ start discharging frozen cargo held in the Holmdale since Anril 14 because of a dispute between seamen and ; the Union Steam Ship Company, Ltd. About eight seamen wanted continuation of a i previous agreement by which they were paid full wages while the ship under- ; went annual survey. This was , expected to last about two weeks and a half. j The company paid the men <
off when the survey was due to start, and offered some standby work which did not include payment for food and accommodation. The seamen subsequently refused to work the cargo, which includes a shipment of eels from the Chatham Islands destined for export. Twenty-seven watersiders and three tally clerks were ordered on Tuesday afternoon to start discharging/the cargo this morning.
