More students seek holiday jobs
More than 250 University of Canterbury and Lincoln College students are seeking temporary employment for the three-week May holidays, which start next week. The University of Canterbury Students’ Association’s employment officer (Mr R. Mete Kingi) said more students had approached him for May holidays jobs this year than last year. Students’ general living costs had risen, and the fewer Christmas holiday jobs meant they had less money in the bank. Mr Mete Kingi said many students preferred to work in May than in the August holidays when examinations were closer. About 15 job offers for students had been received so far, said Mr Mete Kingi. A variety of jobs were needed, such as factory work, gardening, section
clearing, tutoring, and cooking. Anyone willing to employ students for the May holidays can get in touch with Mr Mete Kingi by telephoning 487-069, extension 70.
