Airport posting reversed

PA Auckland The Auckland regional Authority’s chief loading engineer will become the New Auckland Airport manager after lodging a successful appeal for the position. Mr W. R. McDonald was appointed to the position in a dramatic- reversal of an earlier decision. In March the authority provisionally appointed the assistant airport manager, administration, (Mr T. D. Leadbeater) to the position. His appointment drew two appeals from authority staff members, one of whom was Mr McDonald. Mr McDonald, aged 35, is married and has three children. He has worked for the authority’s reading department for the last nine years and has been head of the department for five years. Throughout this period he has been closely involved with big engineering projects at the airport. The original appointment was made from 46 applicants by members of the policy-and-finance and airport committees. It was later confirmed by the full authority. Mr McDonald is expected to take over from the present manager, Mr R. W. G. Emery, at the end of this year.
