N.Z. hat-trick
NZPA Perth A hat-trick by the skipper, Tony Ineson. gave New Zealand a 3-1 victory over Malaysia in a group B match of the world hockey tournament at Perth yesterday. But the win has kept New Zealand’s hopes barely alive. The Olympic champions lost. 2-0. to Great Britain on Saturday. In a one-sided match. New Zealand forced eight short corners to send the weak Malaysian side reeling.
Ineson’s first goal came in the ninth minute off a long corner. He followed up with a short corner goal in the twentyfifth minute to give New Zealand a 2-0 lead at half-time. Ineson rounded off his hattrick in the fifty-first minute with another short corner goal. Avtar Sing Gill scored Malaysia's goal In the last minute. Australia assured itself of a semi-final berth after a thrilling 3-2 win over India, in group A.
