N.Z. play picked by B.B.C.

NZPA London An Auckland writer, 01wynne Macrae, is runner-up in the 8.8.C.’s first international playwriting competition.

Her play, “No Moon, No Sun”, was' described by the judges as a very moving study of a blind man. If will be produced and broadcast soon for the 8.8.C.’s World Service “Play of the Week.”

The competition, launched more than a year ago, was won by an Indian writer, Mrs Dina Mehta, who. will receive a fortnight's tour of London theatres.

The judging panel included the noted British playwright, Tom Stoppard, the actor and singer, Cy Grant, and the 8.8.C.’s head of radio drama, Ronald Mason.

Mrs Macrae, aged 50, has worked extensively in radio and television in New Zealand. For three years she was the drama script editor of TV2. She has also written short stories for radio and contributes to magazines in [New Zealand and Britain.

A spokeswoman for the 8.8. C. World Service said it was unlikely the competition would become an annual [event because it had taken [more than a year to organise this first one. Further | competitions would probably be held “from time to time,” I she said.
