Shipping News Container ships to call
Three container ships are included in 18 scheduled shipping movements at Lyttelton this week.
The Wellington Star is due on Anzac Day, the Flinders Bay on Thursday and ACT 6 on Saturday
Two tankers are also expected including the Messiniaki Aigli from Bahrain today and the Edurna from Singapore on Saturday. Another fruit vessel, Sevilian Reefer, arrived at the port during the week-end with the Ngapara with newsprint from Tauranga.
The Norfolk Maru is bringing 2700 tonnes of car parts and steel with the Marian Buczek due on Friday with general cargo from the Continent.
A chemical tanker, Anco Maru, is scheduled to arrive at the port on Wednesday mainly with methanol.
Export cargoes to be loaded this week at the port include wool for the Continent, Russia and Yugoslavia, meat for Japan and general cargo for Hong Kong,
The Polessk due on Friday is one of the first two universal dry-cargo ships built for the Baltic Shipping Company in Russia in 1973.
Three more of the tvpe were built in 1974 for entry into Australian and New Zealand trade routes. The ships have attracted world-wide interest because of their versatility with the types of cargo able to be carried in the one shipment. They were designed for general cargo, grain, containers
and liquid bulk in two tanks.
The Polessk is 150 m long,; 12,007 tonnes deadweight! with a gross tonnage of| 10.997. The ships travel at! 181 knots and burn 451 tonnes of fuel a day at sea. Deck crane equipment includes a specialised type of crane able to be used 'in tandem with a lifting capacity of 16 tonnes. The Polessk has already loaded at Bluff and Dunedin and will take wool from Lyttelton for Russia and the Continent. ARRIVALS Saturday Asakaze Maru (4.30 p.m.), 2816, Bluff (U.S.S.).
