Contractors get training plan
Mr P. J. Tucker, formerly from Comalco, Ltd, has ' been appointed the first executive training officer for the contracting industry in the South Island. . Mr Tucker said the Contractors Federation had decided that a personnel training service should be provided for the South Island. From April 30 to May 2. he will direct a “small i u s i n e s s management course” for agricultural, and chemical applicator contractors. It will be the first time that such a course had been held in Christchurch. Mr Tucker said the aim of the two-day course would be to advise the small businessman on the best tactics for survival in today’s economic climate. Topics covered at the course will include budget
control, cash flow, public relations, safety, and diversification within the industry. A wide range of agencies will assist in the training programmes. These include the Accident Compensation Commission, the Department of Trade and Industries, and the Small Business Agency.. Mr Tucker hopes to encourage contractors’ wives to come to the course because he thinks that they are often in a good position to help in budget control and costing. So' far, he has received 21 inquiries and four bookings for the live-in course.
An operator training course for agricultural contractors and a potential foreman’s course wl- also be held in Christchurch this year,
