Sex-instruction book ‘honest, wholesome’

PA Wellington The Indecent Publications Tribunal has classified the book, “Will I Like It?” which examines sexual practices and attitudes, as not indecent. The tribunal describes it as a contribution to the accurate instruction and sensible guidance for young people, with information that is still too often said to be lacking in society. Written for the young and inexperienced, the book is a detailed and candid examination of sexual practices and attitudes, says the tribunal. It is honest, informative, wholesome in tone, and

pleasant, even humorous, in manner. “There is no hint of a desire to arouse an unhealthy or unnatural interest in the subject,” the tribunal says. “On the contrary, a number of prejudices and sexual myths are examined frankly and dispassionately.” “Will I Like It?” is published by W. H. Allen, London. The application to the tribunal was by the Hutchinson Group (N.Z.), Ltd. The “Visual Dictionary of Sex,” an English hardcover book of 300 pages, was also classified as not indecent.

The tribunal says it is obviously a serious and sensible publication which in a careful and accurate way but with good humour provides much information on sexual matters generally.

Also passed by the tribunal was “Erotic Art of China,” published by Crown Publishers. It was classified not indecent, the tribunal regarding it as a serious contribution to artistic and cultural history. “Its study of unfamiliar sexual mores is scholarly and humane,” the tribunal says. “Both prints and poems are tastefully presented.” The tribunal classifed “Best Detective Stories,” published by Page Publication Pty, as not indecent, saying the dominant effect of the magazine was little different from the pseudodocumentary police drama shown on television or the regular newspaper reports of criminal cases in New Zealand.

The tribunal, classifying the magazine, “Glass Head,” as not indecent, says that while it is intended to encourage purchase of articles for using drugs, it is in itself, as a photographic display, innocent.

The tribunal classified as indecent magazines “High Times” Nos 29. 30, 33 and 35, published by Trans High Corporation; “In Touch for Men,” published by In Touch Corporated; “Swedish Sex Orgy,” “Swedish Lust,” “Danish Swapping Orgy,” “Wife Swappers Executive Screw,” “Swapping Orgy,” and “Voi,” Vol. 4, Vol. 10, published by Faucrest, Ltd; and “Fiesta” Vol. 11, Vol. 12, published by Galaxy Publications. Also classified as indecent were: “The Dirty Song Book,” “Homophile,” “Men and Their Boy Studs,” “Sexurba,” “Sex Vacations Confidential,” “Three Partner Sex Acts,” “The Young Deviates,” and “Unusual Sex Acts, Practices, and Perversions.” Classified as indecent in the hands of persons under the age of 18 were “Bachelor Annual, 1978,” published by Murray Publishers Pty, Ltd; “Male and Female Sexual Deviations”; and “Oral Love.” Classified as indecent in the hands of persons under 16 are the book, “Delta of Venus,” published by W. H. Allen and Company, Ltd, and also its paperback version.
