Jail for ' vicious’ assault
PA Auckland A man responsible for a “vicious and terrible as sault” was jailed for 2J years by Mr Justice Barker in the Supreme Court at Auckland. John Junior Lagaluga, aged 23, had pleaded guilty of causing grievous bodily harm with intent to injure, and of unlawfully taking a motor vehicle. Lagaluga, who was said to be associated with the Headhunter gang, had been convicted of the offence against Mark Anthony Roiall at Auckland in September. Roiall was one of two men found badly injured in the back of a van when it was stopped by the police in Queen Street. His Honour said the major offence was a vicious and terrible assault committed in an alcoholic haze. The victim was almost blinded. Lagaluga was sentenced to 2| years on the injury charge, and one month, to be served concurrently, for unlawfully taking a vehicle.
