Marylands work let
Wellington reporter
A tender has been accepted for the second stage of the reconstruction of the Marylands special school for intellectually handicapped bovs at Halswell. The old residential accommodation has been demolished to make way for the new school and administration, prior’s house, garage, and associated site development which makes up the second stage of the project, according to the Minister of Education (Mr Wellington).
The first stage, which comprised residential villas, was completed last May. The successful tenderer is Research Build. Ltd, which submitted the lowest of nine tenders for construction of the new buildings, costing about $770,000 and including site works, furniture and equipment. Mr Wellington said that planning was under way for the final stage of the replacement project, which would provide kitchen and service facilities.
