Airline pilots’ dispute
Sir, — I find it absolutely incredible that we are considering bringing in an American advisory body to settle the pilots’ relativity dispute. The problem is New Zealand in origin; it has to do with New Zealanders and with a New Zealand com: pany. Are we really being reduced to such a pathetic state that we cannot settle our own problems? Will the ugly head of relativity grow even - larger as every group in the country claims its relative rights to have its problems solved by the most choice tribunal from overseas? Surely the Prime Minister must tell the flight crews tribunal to get back to the conference table, do the job they were paid to do, and make decisions — New Zealand decisions. I personally would apply the
principle of reverse relativity and reduce the international pilots’ pay to the $35,000 a year and quarter million dollar pension rights of the domestic pilots. — Yours, etc.,
