League to union
The rugby union’s council will set up a special comImittee to investigate the reinstatement of players from rugby league to rugby union. Proposing the motion at the meeting yesterday, the North Auckland chairman, Mr Peter Edlington, said that many prominent administrators were unaware of circumstances affecting young men in remote country districts.
“In some areas of Northland for instance rugby
I league is the only game I available.” He said that administrators knew too well when players applied for reinstatement to union from league there were certain answers which had to be made correctly on the form. Thi* created possible anomalies.
The North Auckland union was not asking for the rules relating to reinstatement to be relaxed, said Mr Edlington, “but we are just, asking the union to investigate the whole question.”
