Policy on A.N.Z.U.S.

Sir, — David Caygill (April 17) pathetically tries to persuade readers that Labour’s policy of membership of A.N.Z.U.S. and the idea of a nuclear-free Pacific are compatible. If the United States were involved in a war, does Mr Caygill think it would hesitate to send nuclear arms or ships into the Pacific or even the South Pacific? Of course it would not. These two propositions (A.N.Z.U.S. and a nuclearfree Pacific are so incompatible they are filing for a decree nisi and everyone knows it except the new Labour member of Parliament. — Yours, etc., SUSAN BERGER. April 17, 1979.
