New log fire is more efficient
For many years we have tended to largely ignore our most freely available and infinitely renewable fuel, wood, especially in log form. One of the most obvious reasons is that fact that we have always thought of wood in the open fire context, where efficiency is pitifully low and wastage high.
Now, with the aid of the log fire invented and developed in New Zealand, all this is changed. The log fire construction cleverly adapts conventional room heater techniques into a high efficiency fire.
The secret lies in the secondary chamber of heating baffles where gasses that normally go up the chimney can recombust. The log fire not only burns the wood, it burns the smoke as well. Because the unit virtually burns twice, it makes maximum use of every part of fuel. In fact, home results indicate that
80 per cent fuel savings are average, and for the first time you can use wood as an easy, available economy fuel. Control is simple, requiring merely a simple side control to switch
from low to glow heat in seconds and to full blaze in minutes.
There also is a by-pass lever to be opened when lighting up, thus allowing the airflow to go straight up the chimney. Because of its twiceburning efficiency, the log fire bums wood to a tiny amount of fine, clean ash. Unlike other fires, the log fire should not be cleaned to often — monthly at the most for home use. Even after six weeks of slow steady burning, there is only a small pile of ash. The log fire warmth will help save on water heating too. A fully compatible wet-back unit is available; ask your retailer to arrange purchase as part of a package with the log fire.
