Attack in street

PA Auckland An off-duty masseuse fought off a would-be rapist in St Patrick’s Square early yesterday morning. A police spokesman said that the women, in her early 20s, was leaving work about 2 a.m, when a bearded man, aged about 30, beat her about the head, dragged her into a nearby street, and tried to rape her. The spokesman said that she retaliated and ran away, stopping a passing motorist who took her to the police station.

The woman suffered a black eye in the attack.
