Fish farming

Sir, — Like Charlie McAhealey (April 16), I have also listened to the radio debates on fish farming and the continuing assertions by fishery scientists that there will be no disease problem. Such assertions bring to mind Harrisburg and the assertions by pro-nuclear scientists that accidents could not happen in reactors because of their fail-safe technology. The near meltdown at Harrisburg is a clear indication of the credibility of such people. The amateur fishermen, who make up the majority of members of acclimatisation societies, have maintained the fishery with loving care over the years and have a greater credibility today than those fisheries scientists promoting fish farming.
