Entertainment scene Saturday night vivre

By

NEVIN TOPP

“The Press” featured prominently in the mines of the newly formed jazzfunk group, Vivre, on Tuesday night.

While the members of the band were trying to explain what type of music the group plays and getting photographs taken, a tow truck was attempting to remove the group’s vehicle from Press Lane, where it had been parked.

The word “vivre” is French for “life,” and to the group it means the energy within “ourselves.” Bass guitarist Barn Haami says that the group plays basically mainstream jazz, leading towards “so-phisto-funk” in the style of Herbie Hancock and"Al Jarreau.

“We play a more intricate type of music as opposed to rock ‘n’ roll,” he explained, ■ making no excuses for his dislike of the type of rock ‘n’ roll played in large hotels. The group also plays music of the likes of Mark Jordan and George Benson, expressing the way they feel about music.

Vivre aim for simplicity in their music, but technically the sound is complex.

They have worked together for only two weeks, but Barn Haami hopes that once the band

is established it will go on to play some Original compositions. Vivre consists of Haami on bass, previously with

Tuoutofit and Mabuck, Craig Kennedy on drums, previously with Spiral, Lady Rose, and Night Mu-

sique, Handel McGregor, on lead guitar, who previously played with Lady Rose and Shadze, and Gerard Moody on keyboards

and vocals. His previous experience was with Shadze. For those people who

liked the sound of the ja z z-influenced groups Night Musique and Spiral. Vivre is the group to hear.

They can he heard in Nell’s” Bar. Warners Tavern, on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday nights.
