Petrol ‘milking’

PA Tauranga In Tauranga, where petrol stations were closed for much of Easter week-end. some motorists found an alternative source of fuel in parked cars or trucks. Senior-Sergeant S. D. Belcher, of the Tauranga police, said 10 private cars or trucks had been “milked” of petrol during the week-end. Some of the cars had been parked in private driveways and the trucks in commercial yards, he said. Since fuel restrictions began it had been normal to have petrol stolen from two vehicles a week-end. Senior-Sergeant Belcher suggested motorists should look at ways to prevent syphoning of petrol from their cars.
