Insurance merger possibility
PA ’ Wellington! Concern that the Govern-] ment Life Office’s share of the life-assurance market has been falling is one of the reasons behind an inquiry into the possible; merging of that office and j the State Insurance Office. | The Minister in charge of; both the Government Life ■ Office and the State Insurance Office, (Mr Quigley)] yesterday said he was con-] Icerned that Government] Life’s share of the life-assur- ] ance market had declined in] the last few years. He had initiated the in-1 quiry to see whether econo-1 mies couid be made. Most private insurance companies had fire and general departments as well as selling life assurance, he said. The possibility of merging both offices had; been looked at previously, but the present, inquiry] might find savings in the j use of premises.
