A New Zealand Society ! for Proportional Representation has been started in the North Island. I Its co-ordinator is Mr D. |C. Shields, of the University ’■of Waikato education department. ! Mr Shields said the new ■ group would be an umbrella I organisation for lobbyists al- . ready active in New Zea- ! land. It would also make . submissions to Parliament i on electoral reform. It was linked with a simi- ; lar Australian group, which : could share the experience ■ of Australia's existing proi portional representation and : preferential non-proportional ’ systems.
